The Decorative Nature of a Nursery

In: Better Baby Room

The way a baby’s room is decorated can make those who inhabit it feel a certain way. I know that I wanted to have a space that felt like a sanctuary to bond with my newborn. I also wanted the room’s decor to appeal, and apply to my daughter’s world beyond just the first few years. Such a plan saved me from having to redecorate at intervals when I wanted my attention focused on my little angel, and not the curtains, carpets, or characters that adorned the area.

To make the room a place that I, along with my husband and other children would want to spend time I inserted a nature theme. The major focus was a tree mural, and from that all else fell into place. Now, the mural was not a detailed frilly creation, instead it was an ethereal outline  with little detail, and only one colour. Very similar to that of a silhouette, and just as dreamy. The bedding, and other soft furnishings were all printed with leaves, birds and clouds. Admittedly, I was interested in establishing a gender neutral place, and I loved the way it turned out. Neither my husband nor my son found it to be uncomfortable, as it was not decked out in bows and flowers and pink, pink, pink. What we ended up with was a zone for all to bond with baby comfortably.
